Santa Cruz close to Botafogo switch

Roque Santa Cruz looks likely to end his miserable spell at Manchester City by joining Botafogo, according to his agent.

The Paraguayan striker moved to the Etihad in the summer of 2009 after the Abu Dhabi take

over of the club for 17.5 million pounds, but failed to establish himself after boss Mark Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini and has been on loan at Malaga this season.

Despite enjoying a successful spell with the La Liga outfit in the current campaign, the financial difficulties at La Rosaleda mean a permanent transfer has always been unlikely, and his agent has now confirmed that a move to the Brazil Serie A is close to completion.

The situation is calm, the player wants to play for Botafogo and the club is interested in signing him. There is no mystery at all, Robson Leite told Radio Tupi.

Hopefully a deal is concluded this week. We had a meeting on Friday, his father is very satisfied and so is the agent in Europe.

You can see that Botafogo are a very serious football club, they have returned to a winning club again and the situation is very calm.

Botafogo, who signed AC Milan and Netherlands legend Clarence Seedorf last year, claimed the 2013 Guanabara title after beating Vasco da Gama.
